NAVEL GAZING | As a designer, I’m interested in identity, place, religion and how these experiences have moulded me. I’m a cisgender woman, who was raised in the north of England, with Irish Catholic roots, so throughout this project, I’ve been exploring these different aspects of me. A physical outcome of this ‘navel gazing’ is a A/W2021 range of woven, woollen fabrics for a unisex outerwear collection, as well as research and my own writing into the subject of Irish Catholicism and how this relates to concepts such as kitsch and postmodernism, both on an academic, as well as a personal level.
